Our Mission

Almost Home Herding Dog Rescue is a non-profit (501(c)(3) organization that is run by a small volunteer group that focuses on rescuing and re-homing Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Rough Collies, Corgis and mixes of these breeds. We also rescue an occasional non-herding breed in need of a new home. Our first priority is pulling dogs from shelters since their time is very limited, but if there's foster space, we will take dogs from people that can no longer provide proper care for them.

Our rescue is located in Gum Spring, Virginia between Charlottesville and Richmond and we also rescue dogs from surrounding states.

Our dogs are fully vetted and kept in foster homes where they receive loving care, behavior evaluations, and basic training. For some of them this is the first loving home they've ever had. Since many of our rescues have been victims of uncaring humans, we strive to find the best possible new home for them. We do not adopt on a first application received basis, and reserve the right to decline applications. Out of state adoption is possible if a reliable person can be found to do a home visit, which is required prior to adoption. Please note: we do not do Zoom home visits. If you are unsure whether we can adopt to you due to your location, email us first using the Contact page.
